چکیده

Raman spectra of germanosilicate core fibers before and after UV irradiation were investigated. Significant changes of the Raman spectra after irradiation indicate transformation of the glass structure. A possible interpretation of the observed changes is proposed.

UV irradiation improves the bond strength of resin cement to fiber posts.

The purpose is to evaluate the effect of UV irradiation on the bond strength between epoxy-based glass fiber posts and resin cement. Twelve epoxy-based glass fiber posts were randomly divided into three groups. Group 1 (Cont.): No surface treatment. Group 2 (Low-UV): UV irradiation was conducted from a distance of 10 cm for 10 min. Group 3 (High-UV): UV irradiation was conducted from a distance...

Absence of UV-induced stress in Bragg gratings recorded by high-intensity 264 nm laser pulses in a hydrogenated standard telecom fiber.

We report on photochemical two-photon Bragg grating preparation in hydrogenated fiber without any UV-induced stress in the core or cladding, leaving only the color-center model responsible for refractive index changes for UV femtosecond irradiation. Without hydrogen loading strong stress changes are observed in the core and in the cladding indicating glass compaction. The irradiation does not c...

Resistivity for deep-UV laser irradiation in fluorine doped silica glass fiber

Optical fibers for propagating deep ultraviolet light were developed using fluorine doped silica glasses called modified fused silica. Optimizing the fiber drawing conditions improved the transmission of the fiber in the deep UV region. The transmittance of the fiber at 193 nm reached more than 65% per 1 m long without reflection loss. Significant absorption bands from defects were not observed...

Hydrogen loading and UV-irradiation induced etch rate changes in phosphorus-doped fibers.

We show strong changes in chemical etching of phosphorus-doped fiber cores due to hydrogen loading and subsequent UV-irradiation using an atomic force microscope. The etch rate of the fiber core in a low concentration hydrofluoric acid solution (HF) is decreasing after hydrogen loading by as much as 30%. In contrast, UV-irradiation of the hydrogenated fiber increases the core etch rate to value...

Comparative study of photo-induced variations of X-ray diffraction and refractive index in photo-thermo-refractive glass

Spontaneous and photo-induced crystallization have been investigated in fluorinated silicate glass by means of X-ray diffraction and optical interferometry. This glass is a photo-sensitive material for high-efficiency phase volume hologram recording. Variations of a refractive index in this glass are controlled by UV irradiation followed by a thermal development which is photo-thermo-refractive...
